Using PDA or Smartphone as a handy webcam

December 19th, 2006

Over thought of using your PDA or Smartphone camera as a webcam? You can do this now. On the Software Blog I just read that using Ateksoft WebcameraPlus we can make our PDA webcamera. Cool addition, I must give this software a try.

Just a quick link about Google Gtalk getting few new features. I for one appreciate the feature of sending a voicemail.

Don't fall for the fake security email from Microsoft

July 26th, 2006

F-Secure reports that users have been getting email disguised as coming from Microsoft and asking them to install the software which in turn install an IRC back door, so be careful out there!

Take screenshots with WinSnap

July 26th, 2006

Jake Ludington's links me to WinSnap- a free utility for taking screenshots and image capturing.

WinSnap is free for personal and educational use. It supports caputre mode of Full Screen,Application, Window, Client Area, Popup-Menu and Region. As Jake mentions, it will be a great idea to have some sort of editing functionality into the software so we then don't have to rely on other editing software. The one feature that I will like to see is editing of sizes on a individual image basis. But a good alternative as a free tool to SnagIT which is not free and one of my favorite tools for image capturing.

Microsoft and Yahoo IM's start talking with each other

July 13th, 2006

Hurray! Finally it's out. Now you can communicate with people on Yahoo IM from within MSN Live Messenger itself and vice versa. This service is still in beta and as I understand you got to sign up for the limited Beta.

For Yahoo messenger, you can sign up for beta by going to http://messenger.yahoo.com/partners_msn.php page and for MSN you can sign up for beta by going to http://ideas.live.com site.

To get access to this service, sign up for the beta service, sign out from both IM's and then sign in again. To test it add your Yahoo ID into your MSN Live Messenger or add your friends MSN Live Messenger ID into Yahoo IM and you are ready to go.

The graphic below shows what I mean.

Yahoo and MSN chatting away

Obviously not all features of the IM are available when you are chatting with a person with an IM on another service (logical), but the good news is that it works!

yahoo options disabled

The advantage: -

1. Intra IM communications
2. One can have only one favourite IM installed and add all the contacts in there
3. Only have to run one IM service at a time (this might not be true if you want to use all the features of the IM not available in the other IM Service)
4. I am sure you will come up with more advantages of this!

So what we need for now is a way to import all the contacts from one IM to other. Don't prefer typing all the contact information again.
